Captain Jeffcott joined the Sunriver Fire Department in 1996 after beginning his career in 1992 as Volunteer Firefighter with the City of Bend Fire Department. Captain Jeffcott also served as a full time Paramedic with Metro West Ambulance in Washington County, Oregon for one year prior to coming back to Central Oregon in 1996. Captain Jeffcott is a shift officer and Paramedic. He serves as the department's EMS Coordinator responsible for insuring the very best, contemporary, medical care is provided to patients
Nick Sphatt Captain
Captain Sphatt has been in the fire service for over 25 years. He holds a Paramedic certification, Bachelors of Science in Public Administration/Fire Management and a Masters of Business Administration degree as well as being a five-time graduate of the National Fire Academy. He has held positions of Firefighter/paramedic, Lieutenant, Captain, and Deputy Chief. Captain Sphatt moved to Central Oregon in 2011 when he became the Director of the Paramedic and Structural Fire Science associate degree programs. After joining us in October of 2015, Captain Sphatt assumed the responsibilities of Shift Captain.
Art Hatch Fire Chief
Chief Hatch has over twenty-five years of fire service experience and has served as a Firefighter/Paramedic, Hazardous Materials Technician, Airport Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, and Training Chief. He served as a District Liaison Officer for Oregon's Department of Public Safety Standards and Training from 1999 to 2009, and has served on numerous training-related, standard-setting committees for that organization. A six-time graduate of the National Fire Academy, Chief Hatch has completed its Management Science and Training Programs curriculum. He holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Fire Protection Technology, a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Service Administration, is a certified Fire Protection Executive by the National Fire Protection Association, and has authored numerous articles for fire service publications.
Rod Bjorvik Deputy Fire Chief
Deputy Chief Bjorvik began his career with the City of Bend Fire Department as a Volunteer Firefighter in 1987 as well as working for the U.S. Forestry Service for three years in the Deschutes National Forest as an engine crew member and Engine Boss. In 1989 Deputy Chief Bjorvik joined the Sunriver Fire Department as a volunteer and became a full-time Firefighter in 1990. He was promoted to Captain in 1991 and Deputy Chief in 2001. He holds a variety of certifications in structural and wildland firefighting and is a paramedic. He is the department’s Operations and Training Chief and is responsible for the department’s Reserve Firefighter program, apparatus acquisition, materials and equipment.
Sunriver Fire and Rescue enjoys an excellent team environment where staff works cooperatively to deliver service beyond expectation to our community. The team of department managers works to insure that the department has the very best trained, most well equipped and customer oriented staffing of any fire agency.
Tammie Waters joined Sunriver Fire Dept in June 2016 as the new Office Manager. Tammie was previously an Administrative Specialist II for the Oregon State Fire Marshal Office where she gained knowledge of the Fire Service Industry. Prior to this, she worked as an Administrative Specialist I for DHS/OLRO-Nursing Facility Survey Unit and Direct Pay Unit and also has 18+ years in the Financial field. Tammie is also a notary, completed NIMS training, a member of OFSOA and is currently working towards her certifications for the accreditation program.
Benjamin O'Keefe Captain
Captain O'Keefe is a 25 year veteran of the fire service. Born and raised in Central Oregon, he has dedicated his entire career to his home. He started his career with the Black Butte Ranch Rural Fire Protection District before becoming a full time firefighter with the Sunriver Fire Department. He has worked diligently through the ranks as Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant and has served for 14 of these years as a Shift Captain/ Paramedic in charge of several Department-wide programs. He currently manages the Fire Department's facilities. Captain O'Keefe has an Associates Degree in Structural Fire Science, numerous certifications in structural/wildland firefighting and has served on various committees throughout Deschutes County.
